JACKSON -- The Clinton High School Men's Golf team continued its red hot week at Live Oaks Golf Club on Thursday.

After a positive start to the week on Monday in Pearl, the Arrows won its Clinton Boys' Invitational by eight strokes. Clinton senior Law Whitfield was the top medalist on the day, carding a 1-over 72 and beating his closest opponent by three strokes to take the top spot.

"Monday was a good day, but today was even better," Clinton Head Golf Coach Clay Norton said. "At the end of the day, the guys get to go home and say 'we won a golf tournament'.

The Arrows finished with a team total of 323, which bettered Germantown High School's 331. Clinton utilized Whitfield's 72, Grayson Fortenberry's 79, and Kage Partridge's 85 for the top-three scores. Jax Stover and Walker Raney both scored an 87.

Whitfield was 2-over par when he made the turned, but a birdie on the par-4 10th hole carried him to three straight pars. Following a bogey on the 14th, Whitfield was next to perfect as he shot 1-under on the remaining four holes, including a birdie on the 18th.

Fortenberry posted a strong round that saw the senior score a birdie on the 10th and eight pars in his journey around Live Oaks.

"Golf is a game about consistency," Norton said. "Whether that consistency is getting you better or keeping you the same, it is clear that Law and Grayson and many others are taking full advantage of their opportunities to stay consistent and get better."

Clinton's Junior Varsity team finished in seventh place. The JV Arrows were led by freshman Mattox Miley as he scored an 81, which was good enough for an eighth-place spot on the individual rankings. Anderson Schoggin carded an 88, and Williams Parry scored a 92, highlighting the team's efforts in what for many was their first tournament competition.

"The majority of the junior high kids were playing their first golf tournament," said. "Using Schoggin as an example, his first time in a tournament, you want him to break 100. He goes out there and posts an outstanding score. They all did a great job in their very first tournament."

The Arrows return to action next Tuesday as Clinton participates in Warren Central High School's tournament at Clear Creek Golf Course in Vicksburg.
