Clinton High School senior golfer Law Whitfield and Head Coach Clay Norton will represent the Arrow Golf team in the 2024 Mississippi Association of Coaches (MAC) All-Star Golf Tournament at the Azaleas at Dancing Rabbit Golf Club next Tuesday in Philadelphia. Whitfield and Norton are members of the North team, which won the 2023 MAC All-Star Tournament, and hope to retain the trophy this year.

"I'm just really excited to get to play with some of the best golfers (in Mississippi)," Whitfield said. "It is a really nice course. This is going to be a lot of fun to make a trip and play that extra golf round."

Whitfield was the Arrows consistent 1-seed throughout the golf season. Reviewing the senior's final golf campaign, Whitfield broke 80 several times and led the team. He shot a 74 at Pearl Municipal Golf Course on Sept. 16. Whitfield led Clinton to a team victory at the Clinton Boys' Invitational, shooting a 72, on Sept. 19 at Live Oaks Golf Club. Another highlight round for Whitfield was at the 2024 Mississippi High School Invitational where he shot a 79 on Oct. 3 in Starkville.

"The team had a really good year, and I had a pretty good season," Whitfield said. "It was a lot fun, and I am glad we got to put together some really good scores (this season)."

Whitfield plans to attend Mississippi State University, planning to pursue a three-year degree in Construction Sciences.

The MAC All-Star Golf Tournament takes the 20 best golfers (12 boys and eight girls) from the north and south halves of Mississippi. The event is set up Ryder-Cup style, consisting of team match play in the morning and individual match play in the afternoon. The golfers will play 27 holes in total on Tuesday. Clinton 2023 graduate Maddie McNeece, who plays golf at Erksine College located in South Carolina, played and won the competition with the North team last year.

"I don't want to say dog eat dog, but there is some serious, really good golf to be played out there," Norton said. "We hope to retain the cup this year. Maddie was part of the winning team last year. So now, Law gets the opportunity to continue the tradition. So, that is really fun.

"It's good recognition to be able to coach (in this event)," Norton added. "It's good recognition of things that we're trying to do here (at Clinton High School), building a program, and it's always good to have one of your own on the team, as well."
