Clinton continues championship run with 7A North State sweep

CLINTON -- The Clinton High School track and field teams continued their dominant postseason march Thursday, sweeping the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 7A North State Championships at Arrow Field.

The Lady Arrows captured the girls' title with 255 points, while the Arrows claimed the boys' championship with 172 points, securing another postseason sweep on their home track.

INDIVIDUAL WINNERS

Andraeia Cavett led the Lady Arrows with a sweep of the hurdle events, winning the 100-meter hurdles in 14.15 seconds and the 300-meter hurdles in 45.01 seconds.

Khamrin Harper claimed the 200-meter title in 24.33 seconds, while Kamiah Mounger won the 400-meter race with a time of 56.48 seconds.

Caitlyn Magee added to the total with a victory in the 800 meters, finishing in 2:22.89.

Clinton's depth was on full display in the relays, as the Lady Arrows swept all four relay events to extend their team lead and secure state meet berths in each.

In the field events, the Lady Arrows swept the discus podium, led by senior Kennedy Williams with a throw of 123-7. Tenley Prestwood cleared 10 feet to win the pole vault, while Kailey Daliet captured the shot put title with a mark of 36-2. Jamaya Ivory added another win in the triple jump with a leap 36-5.50.

On the boys side, Aiden Knox sprinted to titles in both the 100 meters (10.74) and 200 meters (21.31), while Carter Parks matched the effort with a sweep of the hurdles, winning the 110-meter hurdles in 14.41 and the 300-meter hurdles in 39.05.

Jonathan Rockett dominated the throwing events, winning the shot put (55-9) and discus (150-1).

Additional first-place finishes came from Jonah Banks in the high jump (6-6), Daniel Dickinson in the pole vault (13-0) and the Arrows' 4x200-meter relay team which clocked a 1:27.08.

STATE QUALIFIERS

Beyond the event champions, Clinton qualified numerous athletes for the MHSAA Class 7A State Championships next Saturday at Pearl High School.
