STARKVILLE -- The Clinton High School tennis team secured an impressive 6-1 victory over the Starkville Yellowjackets in MHSAA Region 2-7A action Saturday at Starkville High School.
With the win, the Arrows improved to 2-1 in region play.
In singles action,
Kushal Mannam defeated Donovan Shaffer 6-0, 6-1 in straight sets. Tanasvi Uppu battled back in the second set to force a match tiebreak but ultimately fell 10-4 in the deciding set.
Clinton's mixed doubles duo of
Cate Thompson and
Ethan Rone dominated Anna Ford and Peter Bays, 6-2, 6-0.
Brady Mayfield and
Wyatt Rees secured a point in the No. 1 boys doubles match, defeating Brice Welch and George Dunn, 6-2, 6-1.
Manas Guduru and
David Levi Johnson added another win in the No. 2 boys doubles match, downing Kevin Zhang and Theo Ahn, 6-4, 6-1.
The success continued in the girls double matches. The No. 1 pairing of
Hannah Webb and
Kacey Gladney defeated Robin Pugh and Olivia Anderson, 6-2, 6-0, while
Morgan Rowland and
Mackenzie Toaster completed the sweep with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Zy Brown and Yaiza Guitheriez.

Clinton hosts an exciting week of tennis, beginning with a region doubleheader against Murrah and Oxford on Monday, March 23.
On Wednesday, March 25, the Arrows will recognize their senior class prior to their match against the Richland Rangers.
