CLINTON -- The Clinton High School Softball team won a seesaw contest over the Starkville Lady Jackets, 11-10, in the MHSAA Region 2-7A opener on Thursday night.
The Lady Arrows erupted for five runs in the bottom of the sixth, and
Presleigh Burrow slammed the door shut in a bases-loaded jam in the seventh to secure the Lady Arrows' first region win.
Cailyn Willis sparked the late-game rally with a triple, scoring two runs.
Jaelyn Gholar followed with an RBI single,
Madison Nelson laid down a sacrifice bunt that plated a run, and an error on an infield fly extended the lead to 11-9.
The Lady Jackets scored a run in the seventh and loaded the bases with one out, but Burrow delivered in the clutch, recording a strikeout and inducing the game-ending groundout back to the pitching circle.
Clinton totaled eight hits in the contest with
Mia Thrailkill and Gholar leading the way with two hits apiece. Willis drove in four runs.
In the circle, Burrow allowed nine hits and only four earned runs over seven innings, striking out four.
Starkville opened the scoring in the first, but Burrow responded, hitting a two-run single into right field to give the Lady Arrows a 2-1 lead in the bottom half.
Thrailkill singled and a defensive error extended Clinton's advantage to 4-1 in the second before Starkville responded with a pair of runs in the third.
The Lady Jackets scored six runs, despite recording just one hit, to claim a 9-4 lead, including a three-run error, in the fourth.

The Lady Arrows travel to Flowood on Saturday to face Northwest Rankin and Sumrall. First pitches are set for 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
