LAKE -- The Clinton High School Softball team used timely extra-base hitting and
Presleigh Burrow's steady performance in the circle to secure a 5-1 victory over the Union Lady Jackets on Friday at Lake High School.
EARLY SPARK SETS OFFENSIVE TONE
Clinton plated runs in four separate innings and never trailed, improving their early-season momentum at the plate.
The Lady Arrows struck first in the top of the opening frame and added insurance runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth frames. Clinton finished with seven hits and drew six walks, forcing the Union starting pitcher into 125 pitches.
Keelyn Constancio led the offensive charge, going 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, and an RBI.
Madison Rhodes also delivered a two-hit performance, while Burrow helped her own cause with a triple and two RBIs.
Clinton's aggressive approach on the base path manufactured additional pressure with steals from
Cailyn Willis,
Jaelyn Gholar,
Madison Nelson, Rylee Larry, and Burrow.
BURROW GOES THE DISTANCE
In the circle, Burrow, a freshman, was efficient and composed. The righty tossed all seven innings, allowing just three hits and one earned run. She walked two and struck out three in the complete-game victory.
Union's only run came in the bottom of the seventh, but, by then, Clinton had built a comfortable four-run cushion.
Defensively, the Lady Arrows stranded five Union runners on base and worked out of several situations to keep the Lady Jackets off the scoreboard until the final frame.
