FLORENCE -- The Clinton High School Softball team opened the 2026 season with a gritty road victory Tuesday night, holding off a late push to defeat the Florence Lady Eagles, 8-7.
The Lady Arrows utilized a big fourth frame and clutch hitting throughout the lineup to overcome 10 Florence hits, securing their first win of the young season.
After trailing 2-1 after three innings, Clinton broke the game open in the fourth. The Lady Arrows plated four runs to seize control, then added single tallies in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings to build a 8-6 advantage heading to the last frame.
Florence answered with a run in the seventh, but Clinton's defense secured the final outs, stranding Lady Eagles at second and third and preserving the one-run triumph.
Kaelyn Thames led the way at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
Anna Raines delievered a key swing, driving in three runs on one hit while also drawing a walk.
Cailyn Willis added a hit and two RBIs, while
Kaylin Constancio scored once, drove in a run, and reached base three times with two walks.
Clinton finished with seven hits and worked six walks to keep pressure on the Florence pitching staff.

Presleigh Burrow tossed a complete game, allowing seven runs, six earned, on 10 hits and working around five walks.
