Madison Nelson and
Jaelyn Gholar each signed their national letters of intent to continue their playing careers at the collegiate level at a signing ceremony held inside the Clinton High School Media Center surrounded by family, friends, teammates, and coaches. Nelson, an infielder, will join Itawamba Community College, while Gholar, an outfielder, will head to East Central Community College.
Clinton Head Softball Coach Rachel Hurley said the moment reflected the hard work and perseverance both players have shown throughout their softball careers.
"They're just two kids who love the game of softball," Hurley said. "Their opportunity to play at the next level means a little more because of what it took for them to get here. Both have faced moments of doubt and struggle, but they've overcome those challenges and shown what true determination looks like."
Nelson and Gholar played key roles in the Lady Arrows' successful 2025 season in which the the team reached the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 7A Playoff's second round.
Hurley said the continued success of Lady Arrows at the high school and collegiate levels speaks volumes about the culture and standards established at Clinton.
"I think it really shows what our program is about -- the type of kids we have and the work they put in," Hurley said. "What makes me most proud is that when our players get to college, they're not just making rosters -- they're competing, producing, and thriving. That resilience is what we hope to build in them here so they're ready to step on college campuses and make an impact."
