CLINTON -- The Clinton High School Women's Softball team opened their home slate with a dramatic ending, walking off the Brandon Bulldogs, 12-11, Tuesday night in a back-and-forth, non-district contest at Clinton High School.
Clinton improved to 3-1 in a game that featured 23 total runs, 26 combined hits, and momentum swings throughout the seven-inning battle.
Facing an 11-10 deficit and down to the game's final out,
Jaelyn Gholar delivered a clutch single to spark the decisive sequence. Gholar's hit led to a fielding error in center field, allowing
Cailyn Willis and
Presleigh Burrow, who had battled to keep the inning alive, to race home with the winning runs.
The Lady Arrows wasted no time jumping on the scoreboard, plating four runs in the first inning and adding two more in the second to build a 6-2 advantage. Clinton continued applying pressure offensively, finishing with 12 hits and drawing six walks.
Brandon kept the pressure on Clinton with 14 hits and scored in five different frames, including a three-run fifth, tying the game at 8-8, and a three-run seventh that grabbed an 11-10 lead.
Cailyn Willis led the way at the plate, going 3-for-4 with five runs scored and a double. Burrow added three hits with two runs scored, while Gholar recorded two hits and drove in a run.
Kaelyn Thames added a double, and
Anna Raines delivered an RBI, helping Clinton manufacture runs in several innings.
Burrow went the distance int he circle for Clinton, throwing all seven frames and striking out one while navigating consistent traffic on the basepaths.

The Lady Arrows continue their non-district slate, hosting the Florence Lady Eagles at CHS. Junior varsity game starts at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6:30 p.m.
