CLINTON -- Four Lady Arrows recorded two-hit performances,
Madison Nelson allowed just one run in the circle, and the Clinton High School softball team rolled to an 11-1 victory over the Oxford Lady Chargers in Region 2-7A action on Senior Night at Clinton High School.
With the win Clinton improved to 8-2 in region play and 15-12 overall.
Jaelyn Gholar,
Keelyn Constancio,
Madison Rhodes, and Nelson each collected two hits in Clinton's 10-hit performance. Constancio led the offensive surge with two RBIs.
Nelson earned the win in the circle, tossing five innings and allowing one run on four hits and striking out three. The right-hander worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the second inning and stayed composed through several difficult moments.
Before the game, the Lady Arrows honored seven seniors for their contributions to the program: Khloe Nobles,
Mia Thrailkill, McKenley Williams, Kennedy Williams, Malaiah Golliday, Gholar, and Nelson.
Clinton set the tone early in the bottom the first inning. Gholar battled through a nine-pitch at-bat before ripping a double into the left-center field, then later scored on Constancio's single.
The Lady Arrows added four more runs in the opening frame to seize control.
Cailyn Willis delivered an RBI single, and three Oxford errors helped Clinton build a 5-0 lead.
Clinton stretched the lead to 8-1 in the third inning, scoring twice on
Kaelyn Thames' double and once more on Nelson's RBI double. Rhodes added a run-scoring double in the fourth inning.
The game ended in the fifth inning by the 10-run mercy rule when an Oxford error and a fielder's choice off a Constancio bunt brought home the final runs.
