OXFORD -- The Clinton High School baseball team lost to the Oxford Chargers, 11-6, in the Game 2 of a MHSAA Reigon 2-7A series at Charger Park.

The loss dropped the Arrows to 12-9 overall and 3-5 in region play. Clinton now faces a pivotal final region series against the Starkville Yellowjackets, needing a sweep to strengthen its postseason aspirations. The Arrows travel to Starkville for Game 1 on Tuesday, April 7, before returning home for Game 2 on Friday, April 10, at Arrow Baseball Field.

Clinton struck first as Ethan Dotson delivered an RBI single to give the Arrows an early 1-0 lead. Oxford responded in the bottom half, taking advantage of singles by Robert Upchurch and Pryce Pinkins to move in front, 2-1.

The Arrows evened the contest at 2-2 in the fourth when Parker Burrow singled to center field on an 0-2 count, driving in a run.

Oxford broke the game open in the bottom of the fourth. Logan Dorrell singled, Whitten Ellis grounded out, Ford Wade doubled, and an Arrow error lifted the Chargers to a 6-2 lead.

Oxford added five more runs in the next inning. Ellis and Wade drew a walk, each scoring a run, while Upchurch tripled, plating three more runs to push the home team's lead to 11-2.

Clinton showed late fight in the seventh inning as Stone Crain launched a two-run home run to center field, but the rally fell short.

Brady Holmes got the start on the mound for Clinton, working four inning while allowing six runs (four earned) on seven hits.The junior struck out five and walked two. Jake Bell, Gage Temple, and Drew McGahey combined out the bullpen for the last six outs in relief.
