D'IBERVILLE -- The Clinton High School Baseball team won two out of three contests at the Battle at the Beach. The tournament was highlighted by a 3-2 victory over the Lafayette County Commodores on Wednesday at D'Iberville High School.
The Arrows struck first with a two-run first inning off an
Ethan Dodson groundout and a
David Steelman single. Clinton added another run in the second when
Brayden Johnson delivered an RBI single, stretching the lead to 3-0.
Lafayette County answered with two runs in the bottom half of the second, but the Clinton pitching staff shut the door the rest of the way.
Drew McGahey started on the mound, pitching three innings. The junior allowed three hits and two runs before handing the ball to
Jake Bell.
Bell delivered four innings of shutout, hitless relief to secure the win. The freshman left-hander struck out one and did not issue a walk, facing 13 batters in a near-perfect outing.
The Arrows finished the tournament with a 2-1 overall record. Clinton defeated Center Hill, 10-7, earlier in the event but dropped a 7-5 contest to Evangelical Christian on Tuesday.
