CLINTON -- The Clinton High School baseball team dropped a 6-1 decision to the Starkville Yellowjackets in Region 2-7A action Friday night at Arrow Baseball Field.
Starkville scored five runs in the first inning, which proved to be the difference in the final district contest for both teams. The Yellowjackets added another run in the third inning to extend their lead.
Despite the early deficit, the Arrow pitching staff settled in over the final six innings.
Stone Crain allowed just one run after the opening frame in three innings of work.
Jake Bell tossed three scoreless innings, giving up three hits while striking out two, and
Walker Jackson closed the game with a scoreless seventh inning.
The Arrows pushed across their lone run on a sacrifice fly to right field by
Wesley Warren in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Ethan Dodson and
Brady Holmes each collected two hits to lead Clinton's eight-hit effort.
