CLINTON -- The Clinton High School Baseball team used a five-run second inning to hold off the Kosciusko Whippets in non-district action Saturday, earning an 8-6 win at Arrow Baseball Field.

Brayden Johnson, David Steelman, and Ethan Dodson each delivered RBI at-bats during the second, helping the Arrows build a 6-0 cushion. Though the Whippets chipped away late, Clinton never trailed.

The victory improved the Arrows to 6-1 overall and stretched their winning streak to five games.

Clinton struck first in the opening inning when Chad Bates scored on a passed ball. The Arrows added insurance in the third as Bates singled and Steelman laced a double down the right-field line, each driving in a run to extend the lead to 8-3.

Kosciusko answered with a three-run third and added another run in the fifth to tighten the contest. The Whippets mounted one final push with two runs in the seventh, but Clinton closed the door.

Drew McGahey got the start and worked 2 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on three hits. Jake Bell and Gage Temple each provided 1 2/3 innings of relief, steadying the game and limiting damage. Brady Holmes earned the save, recording the final three outs to secure the win.

The Arrow pitching staff combined for five strikeouts.

Offensively, Clinton pounded out 11 hits. Ryan Saxton, Bates, and Steelman each collected two hits. Parker Barron, Case Robinson, Wesley Warren, Johnson, and Dodson added one hit apiece in the winning effort.
