CLINTON -- Chad Bates drove in four runs on three hits, and
Brady Holmes struck out eight in a complete-game gem as the Clinton Arrows defeated the Pearl Pirates, 7-0, in a non-district game Tuesday night at Arrow Baseball Field.
The win stretched the Arrows' overall record to 4-1, and it was Clinton's third straight win.
Bates powered the Clinton offense from the lead-off spot, delivering a two-out single in the fourth and a three-run blast in the sixth. The senior outfielder was a triple shy of the cycle in his three-hit performance.
Holmes scattered three hits across seven innings of work, attacking the strike zone and keeping the Pirates off balance. Four out of Holmes' eight strikeouts were looking and he set the tone early in at-bats, starting 19 out of the 24 batters faced with a strike.
In a bases-loaded situation,
Case Robinson delivered a two-out single to right field in the bottom of the first inning, plating two runs and giving the Arrows an early advantage.
Clinton added two runs with a two-out rally in the fourth.
David Steelman scored Bates from second with his double that gave the Arrows a 4-0 lead.
Clinton piled up 10 hits in the contest. Steelman collected two hits in four at-bats, while
Ethan Dodson,
Parker Barron,
Brayden Johnson, and
Braylon Lowery each had a hit.
