SOUTHAVEN -- The Clinton High School Women's Basketball team kept dancing in the postseason Friday night, earning a hard-fought 34-27 road victory over DeSoto Central, the MHSAA Region 1-7A runner-up, in the Class 7A Playoffs.
After trailing 5-4 at the end of the opening quarter, the Lady Arrows responded with a pivotal second-quarter surge.
Grace Eatmon,
Destinee Diamond, and Khloe Ray each connected from beyond the arc as Clinton outscored the Lady Jaguars 14-8 in the period to take control, leading 18-13 at halftime.
The Lady Arrows continued to build separation in the second half, leaning on defensive intensity and timely scoring.
Aria Jones poured in four of her team-high nine points during the fourth, helping seal the victory.
Eatmon finished with eight points, while
Channie Agee and Diamond each contributed six points in a balanced offensive effort that sent Clinton into the next round.
UP NEXT
Clinton (17-13) advances to face Starkville, the MHSAA Region 2-7A champion, for the fourth meeting between the two teams this season. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, February 26, at Mississippi Valley State University.
The winner will advance to the semifinal round next week in Jackson.
