OXFORD -- The Clinton High School Women's Basketball team delivered when it mattered most, defeating the Oxford Lady Chargers, 49-44, in overtime of the MHSAA Region 2-7A Tournament third-place game Friday, February 13, at Oxford High School.

The extra-time victory marked the 16th win of the season and, more importantly, secured the No. 3 seed out of Region 2-7A. With the win, Clinton (16-13) will travel to Southaven on Friday, February 20, to face Region 1-7A runner-up DeSoto Central in the first round of the MHSAA Class 7A State Playoffs. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.

Friday's win also provided redemption. Oxford defeated Clinton twice during the regular season, but the Lady Arrows flipped the script in the postseason matchup.

Clinton grabbed early momentum, leading by three points at the end of the first quarter and taking a 18-17 advantage into halftime. The narrow advantage continued into the third quarter, where the Lady Arrows led 31-30 heading into the final period.

Oxford scrapped back in the fourth, tying the game at 37 to force overtime. In the extra session, Clinton stayed composed and executed from the free-throw line down the stretch, outscoring Oxford, 12-7. Eight of the 12 overtime points came at the free-throw line where the Lady Arrows shot an 80-percent clip on 10 attempts.

Senior guard Aria Jones led the Lady Arrows with 17 points, including six in overtime. Kayland Ellis scored four 3-pointers en route to 12 points. Aniyla Cavett and Grace Eatmon each scored seven points in the victory.
