MADISON -- The Clinton High School Women's Basketball team battled to the final horn, knocking down 10 3-pointers, but came up short in a 65-59 loss to the Madison Central Lady Jaguars in a MHSAA Region 2-7A contest Friday night at Madison Central High School.
Senior
Grace Eatmon led all scorers with 27 points, burying five shots from beyond the arc to pace the Lady Arrows' offensive effort.
Kayland Ellis chipped in 11 points, while
Aria Jones and
Channie Agee added eight points apiece.
Madison Central surged to a commanding 22-5 advantage after the opening quarter, using a relentless full-court press to force turnovers and disrupting Clinton's offensive rhythm.
The Lay Arrows responded in the second quarter, breaking the pressure and mounting a spirited comeback. Eatmon sparked the rally with 10 points in the period, pulling Clinton back within single digits at halftime, 29-23. During the surge, Clinton connected on four 3-pointers, including two from Eatmon with
Aniyla Cavett and Ellis also knocking down shots from deep.
Out of the break, Madison Central briefly stretched its lead back to double figures, but Clinton answered again. The Lady Arrows outscored the Lady Jaguars 12-3 late in the third, trimming the deficit to three points, 43-40, heading into the final frame.
Madison Central once more pushed the advantage back to double figures in the fourth, and, although Clinton continued to chip away at the deficit, the late push fell short as the Lady Arrows dropped the region matchup by six.
The setback moved Clinton to 3-5 in Region 2-7A play and 13-11 overall on the season.

The Lady Arrows enter the final stretch of the regular season on Tuesday, February 2, hosting a Region 2-7A game against Germantown at Arrow Gym. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
