The Clinton High School Football team won its first two games of the season, playing in the friendly confines of Arrow Field.
This week, the Arrows receive their first road test of the 2025 regular season.
Clinton heads to Rankin County and tilts with the Brandon Bulldogs at 7 p.m. on Friday night at Brandon High School.
Last week, the Arrows (2-0) rushed to a 16-0 halftime advantage against the Northwest Rankin Cougars at Arrow Field. Clinton forced six turnovers, including two timely turnovers -- a fumble and an interception inside the Clinton 20-yard line. Despite the Cougars' unanswered 11 points,
Braylon Spann's late-game field goal, and
Davon Merchant's forced fumble and
Jaiden Jefferson's recovery sealed the 19-11 win.
On the opposition sideline, Brandon (1-1) bounced back from a week-one loss to Tupelo, 36-15, and defeated the Madison Central Jaguars, 17-7, last Friday in Madison.
SERIES HISTORY
Last year, the Arrows defeated the Bulldogs in a 65-62 thriller -- one of the highest-scoring games in MHSAA history.
In the Metro-Jackson area's longest continuous rivalry, both teams break in first-year head coaches as Brandon's Lance Pogue and Morgan will experience their first Clinton-Brandon game as leaders of their respective teams in the series' 81st meeting.
- Clinton leads the series 43-36-1.
- Clinton's last win at Brandon was a 30-7 triumph on September 4, 2020.
- Brandon has won six out of the last 10 match-ups in the series.
ARROW HONORS
For the second straight week, the Arrows landed several players received honors for their individual performances. This time against Northwest Rankin.
Trevion Casnel was named to the Mississippi Gridiron team of the week as a defensive back. Casnel had 10 tackles and an interception during the win over the Cougars.
Davon Merchant, Donovan Shaiffer, and Casnel were listed as top performers on Mississippi Gridiron.
Merchant had five tackles, four sacks, a tackle for loss, two forced fumbles, and a pass breakup. Additionally, the Clinton defensive lineman was nominated for the WAPT Blitz 16 Player of the Week.
Shaiffer had 10 tackles, two tackles for loss, an interception, and a fumble recovery.

Clinton Athletics will have a simultaneous radio broadcast on WJNT 1180 AM/96.9 FM. Both broadcasts will start at 6:30 p.m.
