The Clinton High School Baseball team needed a win in MHSAA Division 2-7A to keep their postseason hopes alive. Against the Madison Central Jaguars on Friday night, the Arrows got that win with several impressive performances.
Sparked by
Stone Crain's three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning and
Tyrese Haggard's stellar five-plus innings of work on the mound, Clinton knocked off Madison Central, 8-3, at Arrow Field.
Crain provided pop in the middle of the lineup and led the Arrows with three runs batted in.
Ethan Dodson and
Chad Bates each collected two hits.
Haggard earned the win for Clinton. The starter scattered seven hits and allowed three runs (two earned), striking out three and walking one.
Phillip Burchfield tossed one inning of no-run ball in the seventh frame. Burchfield allowed no hits, striking out one and walking one.
After Sanders Ainsworth's solo shot in the top of the first, Crain homered to left field, plating three runs, giving the Arrows a lead they would not surrender the remainder of the game. Bates added another run in the second when he doubled to right field, making the score, 4-1.
Clinton scored four more runs on three hits in the bottom of the fourth.
Aaric Beasley doubled to left field, scoring two runs, and
Ethan Dodson provided a two-out double, scoring two more runs, making the Arrows' advantage 8-1.

The Arrows play their final MHSAA Division 2-7A series against the Tupelo Golden Wave. Clinton hosts Tupelo on Tuesday evening and travels to Tupelo on Friday.
