TUPELO -- The Clinton High School Women's Basketball team hoped to remain the third seed out of Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Division 2-7A Tournament.
On the other side of the court, the Germantown Lady Mavericks, who finished fifth in the division at the regular season's conclusion, was hoping to grab their first win over Clinton in three attempts and the third seed.
In the MHSAA Division 2-7A third-place women's game, the third time as the charm.
Germantown outscored Clinton 9-1 in the last half of the fourth quarter and claimed a 34-31 win on Friday afternoon at the THS Dome. The loss relegated the Lady Arrows to the division's fourth-seed representative as the MHSAA Class 7A State Tournament cranks up next Friday, Feb. 14.
Grace Eatmon led the Lady Arrows with 10 points and an assist.
Jatoi Johnson scored nine points, pulled down six rebounds. Another top Clinton performer was
Caitlin White who scored six points and dished out four assists.
Charlie Gamberine scored 11 points, and Dallas Haralson added eight points in the Lady Mavericks first win over the Lady Arrows.
Johnson, Eatmon, and McKinley converted shots into baskets, and Clinton led Germantown 6-5 at the end of the first.
Gamberine scored seven points during a Lady Maverick 11-0 run in the second that gave them a 16-7 advantage. Eatmon knocked down three shots and helped the Lady Arrows cut the deficit to four by the intermission. The red and black trailed 19-15.
Out of the locker room, Clinton got the game back to even when it outscored Germantown 10-6 in the third. Clinton went on a 5-0 run in the opening minutes of the final period and secured a 30-25 advantage. The Lady Mavericks knocked down a pair of 3-pointers. The Lady Arrows were unable to score from the field and saw many of their possessions end in turnovers. Germantown added three free throws in the final two minutes to create the final cushion.

The Lady Arrows (20-9) are slated a Round-of-16 match-up with the MHSAA Division 1-7A champions Hernando High School on Friday, Feb. 14, in Hernando. The Lady Tigers defeated the Oxford Lady Chargers, 48-45, claiming that division's top seed in the state tournament.
