CLINTON — The Clinton High School Men's Soccer team opened its Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Region 2-7A slate in emphatic fashion Tuesday night, defeating the Oxford Chargers in a 5–1 victory at Arrow Field.
The Arrows controlled possession, dictated tempo, and showcased their depth in the attacking third to secure a dominant start to district play.
Timothy Graham and
Cole Hayman each scored a brace, while
Colton Cox headed home a late goal, improving the red and black's record to 5-0-2 and 1-0 in district play.
Clinton opened its productive attacking night in the 15th minute when Hayman's clever heel touch redirected
Wes Ambrose's flick into the net. Seven minutes later,
Juan Parades' in-swinging free kick was met cleanly by Graham to double the Arrows advantage.
The momentum continued in the 38th minute when a smooth passing sequence culminated in Graham's second goal, assisted by Jadyen Field, sending Clinton into halftime with a 3-0 lead.
Nine minutes out of the locker room, the Arrows made it 4-0 after another well-excuted buildup ended with Hayman calmly finishing at the back post on an assist from Ambrose.
Oxford cut into its deficit in the 73rd minute, but Clinton answered immediately. In the 77th minute, Cox restored the four-goal margin, nodding in a perfectly served free kick from
Ryan Carite to cap the scoring.
Clinton's dominant performance, featuring goals from three different players and purposeful possession, bolstered the squad's early-season form and its confidence as it enters the heart of region play.
