CLINTON -- The Clinton High School Men's Soccer team put together a dominant all-around performance on Thursday night, cruising past the Murrah Mustangs, 6-0, in a MHSAA Region 2-7A game at Arrow Field.
Wes Ambrose,
Juan Parades, and
Murphy Schoggen each recorded two goals as the Arrows overwhelmed Murrah.
Ian Davis and Parades each had an assist during the game.
The Arrows' defensive line was equally sharp, limiting Mustang opportunities and preserving the clean sheet on home turf. Freshman goalie
Zach Pletzke anchored the defense, picking up his first clean sheet of his varsity career.
Clinton (7-1-2, 3-1 Region 2-7A) struck first in the 10th minute when Ambrose calmly converted a penalty kick. Eight minutes later, Schoggen's blistering run down the left flank produced a driven cross that Paredes finished to double the Arrows' advantage. Clinton carried the 2-0 lead into the halftime break.
The Arrows had to wait 31 minutes to break through in the second half when Schoggen's long-range effort slipped past the Murrah goalkeeper to extend Clinton's lead. In the 77th minute, Davis laid off a pass to Ambrose, who struck a first-time volley to give the Arrows a 4-0 advantage.
Clinton tacked on two more goals in the 80th minute as Paredes and Schoggen each converted penalty kicks to cap the Arrows' six-goal victory.
