The Clinton High School Football team hopes to extend its season on Thursday night when it visits the Madison Central Jaguars in a Mississippi High School Activities Assocation (MHSAA) Region 2-7A game. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. in Madison.

In the final regular-season game, the Arrows (4-5, 1-3 Region 2-7A) must win by eight points or more over the Jaguars to secure a postseason berth, which would be the first playoff appearance since 2022.

Clinton looks to end a three-game skid in region play, following a 47-17 loss to the Germantown Mavericks last week.

Despite the setback, Braylon Lowery led the Arrow offense with 19 carries for 94 yards, including a long of 25. Lowery gained 59 yards during the game's opening possession.

Jayden Jones connected seven of 14 passing attempts, amassing 109 and throwing a touchdown in the second quarter. Jones' 44-yard, touchdown pass to Jaden Johnson.

Jamari Smith had three catches for 49 yards against Germantown.

Braylen Spann tacked on a 30-yard field goal and two extra-point kicks, helping the Arrows reach 17 points.

Defensively, Jaiden Jefferson led the Arrows with six tackles. Robsen Neblett, Dallas Johnson, and Trevion Casnel had five tackles each. Dallas Johnson had two tackles for losses, as well.

Madison Central (5-4, 2-2 Region 2-7A) clinched a dramatic win over the Starkville Yellowjackets as Rossi Beavers' last-second kick split the uprights for a 38-35 win.

Elsewhere in Region 2-7A, Germantown hosts the Murrah Mustangs in Gluckstadt, while Starkville, who are also at risk for missing the playoffs, travel to the Region 2-7A champion Oxford Chargers. All games are held on Thursday as MHSAA Class 1A-4A playoffs start this Friday.

SERIES HISTORY

Thursday marks the 34th all-time meeting between Clinton and Madison Central. The Jaguars lead the series 22-11, dating back to 1993.

The Arrows have won three of the last 10 meetings, including two victories during their 2016 state-championship season and a 38-31 win in Madison in 2022. Madison Central claimed last year's matchup, 49-39.

MCSD CLEAR-BAG POLICY

Madison County Schools has made an enhancement to its current safety plan that will require attendees to use clear bags inside the venues of all MHSAA-sanctioned events.

The size of the clear bag must be no larger than 12x6x12. Any purse, backpack, or bag that does not meet these requirements will be turned away at the site entrances. As a reminder - tobacco, alcohol, drugs, and weapons are prohibited items on school grounds and events. Thank you for helping to make school activities safe and secure for our community.
