Wes Ambrose put away the game-winning goal late in the second half and the Clinton High School Men's Soccer team remained unbeaten, earning a gritty 2-1 victory over the Tupelo Golden Wave on Saturday, November 15, at Arrow Field in Clinton.
The Arrows jumped ahead in the 16th minute when senior
Juan Parades capitalized on a misplayed build-out pass from the Tupelo goalkeeper. Parades stepped in front of the errant ball and scored into an empty net, giving Clinton an early 1-0 lead that it carried into halftime.
Tupelo equalized in the 51st minute on a strike from AJ Hatch, increasing the intensity on both ends of the pitch.
Clinton responded swiftly. In the 56th minute, Parades delivered a pinpoint corner kick into the near post where Ambrose flicked the cross past the goalie, restoring the Arrows' advantage and igniting the Clinton supporters.
Clinton's defense held firm in the final moments, securing the result and moving the Arrows record to 3-0.
