The Clinton High School Men's Soccer team overcame an early deficit to secure a 6-1 victory over the Forest Bearcats in the season opener Tuesday night at Arrow Field.
A defensive miscue in the match's second minute allowed Forest to strike first, but the Arrows regrouped and controlled the remainder of the rain-drenched contest, scoring six unanswered goals to close out the win.
Clinton's attacking surge began in the 29th minute when
Owen Coker found the equalizer, intercepting a Bearcat pass and deftly finishing his opportunity in front of goal.
Cole Hayman followed with the go-ahead goal, calmly placing
Timothy Graham's low-driven cross into the net, in the 38th minute, giving the Arrows a 2-1 lead at halftime.
The scoring continued in the second half, as
Lawson Cobb extended the advantage in the 45th minute. The junior defender's 40-yard effort was was mishandled by the Forest goalkeeper. Graham added a goal of his own in the 60th minute, assisted by
Juan Parades.
Bradley Wells and Colton Cox capped the scoring in the 78th and 80th minutes, respectively.
Parker Cole provided the assist on Cox's goal.
