The Clinton High School Football team continues its campaign for a postseason berth Friday night at Arrow Field when the Arrows host the Oxford Chargers. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. on the campus of Clinton High School.
Clinton (4-2, 1-1 Region 2-7A) looks to bounce back from a tough 28-7 loss to the Starkville Yellowjackets last week. The Yellowjackets capitalized on a blocked field goal return and a pick six, along with two offensive touchdowns, to secure victory. Despite the setback,
Miles Bass collected an interception, and
Jayden Jones connected with
Cayden Albert for a touchdown during the contest.
Oxford (6-1, 2-0 Region 2-7A) enters the matchup riding momentum after rallying past the Germantown Mavericks, 43-42, in overtime. The Chargers' dramatic win kept them unbeaten in region play, adding intrigue to Friday night's clash.
Elsewhere in Region 2-7A, Madison Central faces Germantown in Gluckstadt, while Starkville hosts Murrah at Yellowjacket Stadium.
SERIES HISTORY
Friday marks the fourth-ever game between Clinton and Oxford. The teams first met in the 2020 MHSAA Class 6A playoff semifinals, where the Chargers edged the Arrows, 31-27. Clinton returned the favor in 2021 with a 23-6 triumph at Arrow Field, before the Chargers reclaimed victory in 2022 with a 24-22 result at Bobby Holcomb Field.
