The Clinton High School Football team makes its longest trip of the regular season for its Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Region 2-7A tilt on Friday in Starkville.

The Arrows (4-2, 1-0 Region 2-7A) take on the Starkville Yellowjackets (4-2, 0-1 Region 2-7A) in both team's second game of region play. Clinton played spoiler last year, taking a district win off the Yellowjackets, 31-22, on October 18, 2024, at Arrow Field.

"We have a very difficult Region 2-7A schedule remaining," Clinton Head Football Coach Hamer Morgan said. "There are six teams, vying for four playoff spots. We are going to have to play hard for four quarters and not have any turnovers on offense, and our defense needs to create turnovers."

Clinton grabbed a 35-0 win over the Murrah Mustangs last Thursday (Oct. 9) at South Jackson Field, opening their Region 2-7A with a win for the second season in a row. Braylon Lowery and Cayden Albert scored two rushing touchdowns each, and Boskey Evans added a score on the ground during the third quarter. The Arrow defense collected its first shutout since the 2021 season and nabbed three turnovers. Davon Merchant scooped up a fumble while Miles Bass and Ashton Nichols caged interceptions.

Starkville enters the tilt after a 45-28 loss to the Germantown Mavericks last Friday (Oct. 10) in Gluckstadt.

Besides the Clinton-Starkville matchup, the Madison Central Jaguars travel to Murrah, and the Oxford Chargers host Germantown. All three region games are played tonight.

SERIES HISTORY

The Clinton-Starkville series dates back to the 1999 playoffs when the Yellowjackets defeated the Arrows, 55-14, in the first round of the MHSAA Class 5A postseason. Starkville has since rattled off 11 wins out of the 16 total meetings, but Clinton has won half of the last six games.

The Arrows last win over Starkville at Yellowjacket Stadium was the 2000 Class 5A semifinals -- a 27-0 victory for the red and black.
