STARKVILLE -- The Clinton High School Women's Soccer team locked up the second seed in Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Region 2-7A action and a home playoff game next week.
Four different Lady Arrows (13-4-1) scored in a 4-1 win over the Starkville Lady Jackets on Tuesday night.
With the second-seed spot, Clinton hosts the Hernando Lady Tigers, the third-seeded team out of Region 1-7A, in the opening round of the MHSAA Class 7A playoffs next Tuesday at Arrow Field. It is a rematch of the first-round game last season in which the Lady Arrows defeated the Lady Tigers, 1-0.
After falling behind to the Lady Jackets,
Zariya Bass tied the game in the 39th minute and knotted the game at 1-1 by the intermission.
The Lady Arrows pulled away with a
Carly Howell free-kick goal in the 69th minute. Goals from
Kayla Jones and
Joelle Ambrose in the 71st and 74th minute, respectively, powered the Lady Arrows to an easy victory.
