The Clinton High School Men's Basketball team fell behind early and could never get back even on Friday night at Arrow Gym.
The Starkville Yellowjackets stung the Arrows with a strong shooting performance early and ran away with a 53-35 victory in a Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Region 2-7A game. Clinton's overall record fell to 12-12 and 2-6 in district play.
Jakobe Cavett led the Arrows with 14 points and five rebounds and an assist.
Javarius Tyler added seven points, and
Logan Garner provided six points from the low block.
The Yellowjackets had three players in double-figure scoring and made 57-percent of their shots, including a 50-percent effort from behind the 3-point arc.
Starkville raced out to an 18-5 advantage after the first period that included a 16-1 run in the last five minutes. The Arrows outscored the visitors by two points in the second, but the Yellowjackets carried a 31-20 lead into the intermission.
In final two quarters, it was all Starkville. The Yellowjackets only saw their lead dwindle to six points midway through the third and eventually pulled away in the last eight minutes.

Clinton closes out the Region 2-7A action with a trip to Jackson-Murrah on Tuesday, Jan. 28, and its final home game on Friday, Jan. 31, against Madison Central at Arrow Gym.
