On a rain-drenched Friday night at Arrow Field, the Clinton High School Women's Soccer team were unburdened by the Tupelo Lady Wave's 1-0 advantage.
Clinton's junior talisman,
Kayla Jones, made sure of that mentality.
Jones scored two goals, including the game-deciding penalty kick in the 68th minute, that lifted the Lady Arrows to a 2-1 win over Tupelo in a MHSAA Region 2-7A match. The win positioned Clinton, which is 4-2 in region play, in second place behind the league-leading Madison Central High School.
Jones opened Clinton's account with outstanding goal with her left. Battling off Lady Wave defenders, the forward's left foot struck the ball outside the 18-yard box and past the Lady Wave goalie. Six minutes later, Jones calmly put away her chance at the spot. It was her 21st goal of the season.
Clinton enters the final two weeks of the 2024-25 season with a 12-3-1 record.
