Owen Coker and
Erick Martinez scored two goals each as the Clinton High School Men's Soccer team drowned the Tupelo Golden Wave 4-1 Friday night in a MHSAA Region 2-7A match at Arrow Field.
Starting the week in last place of the region, the Arrows (9-4-4, 3-3 Region 2-7A) improved their postseason chance with the win over Tupelo and a 3-2 win over the Germantown Mavericks on Tuesday (Jan. 14). Clinton is tied for the league's second-place with Starkville (13-4, 3-3 Region 2-7A). The return fixture is scheduled with the Yellowjackets for Tuesday, Jan. 28, in Starkville.
Coker scored his first goal in the first half, helping the red and black to a 1-0 lead at the intermission. Then, the Arrows turned on the heat out of the break. Martinez cracked a low drive into the goal in the 43rd minute. The senior's goal was assisted by Coker.Â
Coker added his second three minutes later from a
Justin Singleton cross. Finally, Martinez finished a worldie strike off the volley that struck off the bottom of the Tupelo crossbar in the 54th minute.
