The Tennis team dropped two Region 2-7A matches on consecutive days last week. The first loss was at the hands of defending state champion Madison Central on Thursday afternoon at home by a score of 7-0. The second loss was on Friday afternoon at Starkville by a score of 4-3.
On Thursday, the Arrows played well and won some games within sets, but were swept in all 7 matches.
Grayson Temple and
Tierney Cronin lost two competitive sets 3-6 and 5-7.
Avanthi Remata and
Hannah Webb also kept the match close with a score of 3-6 and 6-7.
Ethan Rone and
Brady Mayfield dropped their first set 5-7 after holding a 5-2 lead early before dropping the second set 2-6.
On Friday, the team match stayed close and came down to the third set in the final match to determine the overall winner.
Tejasvi Uppu swept her girls singles match 6-0, 6-0. Temple and Cronin won their match easily by a score of 6-3, 6-1. Remata and Webb won their match 6-1, 6-2. The mixed doubles team of
Owen Fulton and
Keaton Cole stormed back in the 2nd set to win 6-3 after dropping the opening set 3-6. The match went to a 3rd set tiebreaker that the Yellow Jackets won by a score of 10-7 to claim the overall match with their 4th win of the day.
This week dropped the Arrows to 3-2 overall and 0-2 in Region 2-7A. This week, the JV team travels to Florence on Monday before the Varsity takes on MRA on Tuesday at home before 2 more Region 2-7A matches on the road at the end of the week at Germantown and Tupelo.
