The Clinton Lady Arrows Soccer team played on a mission on Friday night in Oxford by defeating the Lady Chargers by a score of 4-0 in the 2nd Round of the MHSAA 7A Playoffs. The win pushes the Lady Arrows' record to 14-4-2 and 2-0 in the playoffs. The win also puts the Lady Arrows in the North Half Finals of 6A/7A for the 5th consecutive season.
The Lady Arrows started quickly with 2 goals in the first 11 minutes of action. Senior
Cooper Holmes scored on an assist from Senior
Mckenzie Price in the 6th minute as Price executed a perfect set piece, followed quickly by Senior
Lauren Warner finding the back of the net in the 11th minute, giving the Lady Arrows a 2-0 lead before all the fans could even find their seats. The game settled in over the next 30 minutes and both teams played solid defense to take the game to a 2-0 halftime score.
In the 2nd half, Senior
Cooper Pletzke scored the third goal of the game on an assist from Holmes. 10 minutes later, Junior
Isabella Jones scored the final goal of the night on an assist from Sophomore
Kayla Jones.
Senior Goalkeeper
Sarah Polk recorded her 12th clean sheet in 20 games this season along with the help of the masterful back line of Price along with Senior
Jada Watson, and Juniors
Kate Crisler and
Mandy Leach.
Head Coach Elliot Rimmer said of his team's performance, "This is what we have worked for all year. The girls continue to put in the work and it was great to see that work pay off with a dominant result. The aggressiveness we played with tonight is the identity of this team and this program. We are ready for the next round of the playoffs. Whether we play at home or on the road, it is going to be a quality opponent in an amazing atmosphere."
The Lady Arrows will take on the winner of the Tupelo at Madison Central match taking place at 2 PM on Saturday afternoon. The North State Championship game will take place on Tuesday night, time and place TBD. If Tupelo wins, the Lady Arrows would host the Lady Golden Wave at Arrow Field. If Madison Central wins, the Lady Arrows would travel north to Madison on Tuesday.
