The Clinton High School Men's Soccer team battled the Madison Central Jaguars in a Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Region 2-7A contest on Tuesday night at Arrow Field.
However, the Arrows' effort was not enough, falling 2-1 at the hands of the Jaguars. The loss placed the red and black's regional record to 1-3.
Madison Central scored the game's opener from the penalty spot in the 15th minute. Then, the Jaguars doubled their advantage when they finished off a low, driven cross from the top of Clinton's 6-yard box during the 23rd minute. The two goals gave Madison Central a 2-0 advantage at halftime.
In the 63rd minute, Clinton responded when
Wes Ambrose converted a free kick from 27 yards away from goal, which was blasted past the Madison Central goalie. The Arrows chased the game in the final minutes, but the Jaguars' stall tactics, including milking the clock in the Arrows' corner, withstood any possible equalizer.
