TUPELO -- The Clinton High School Men's Soccer team had not started the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Region 2-7A slate to its traditional standard.

Needing to dig itself out of a self-inflicted hole, Clinton got some swagger back against its region foe the Tupelo Golden Wave on Thursday night.

Timothy Graham and Owen Coker scored two goals apiece as the Arrows spoiled Tupelo's Region 2-7A home opener with 4-1 win at Renasant Field. Clinton improved its overall record to 6-3-2 and 1-2 in regional competition.

After the Golden Wave scored in the 1st minute, the Arrows seemed to face a daunting task. Graham tied and then grabbed the lead with consecutive goals in the 14th and 18th minutes. Graham finished off a Wes Ambrose shot that clanked off the cross bar and finished off a goal-keeper spill, pushing the Arrows to a 2-1 advantage at halftime.

Coker improved Clinton's advantage to two goals in the 70th minute, converting a penalty kick. Then, Coker finished off the game when his 25-yard shot ricocheted off Tupelo's goal keeper's hands and into the back of the net.

Clinton squares off against the Madison Central Jaguars in Region 2-7A action on Tuesday night at Arrow Field. The Arrows and Jaguars kick off its game at 7:15 p.m.
