The Clinton Women's Basketball team extended its winning streak to four games on Thursday night.
Clinton used a massive third quarter to defeat the Canton Lady Tigers 50-39 in its non-district game at Arrow Gym. The Lady Arrows hold a 4-1 record after wins over Ridgeland, South Panola, Lanier, and Canton.
The Lady Arrows trailed 20-19 at halftime, but they came out of the locker room ready to take over the game.
Grace Eatmon knocked down a jump shot in the second half's first 19 seconds, taking the lead. However, the Lady Tigers regained a three-point advantage.
It was at the third quarter's 4:47 mark when Clinton got its footing.
Caitlin White knocked down two free throws, and
Jatoi Johnson added a right-handed lay-up to ignite the quarter-closing run.
The Lady Arrows used their high-intensity defensive press as
Aria Jones scored eight consecutive points in transition to lift her team to a 35-29 lead with under a minute remaining.
After an
Alajah Davis' free throw with 14 seconds left in the quarter, White scored her buzzer-beating shot to complete a 19-point quarter and secure a 38-29 advantage.
In the final eight minutes, Clinton kept its advantage and outpaced the Lady Tigers 12-10.
