TUPELO -- The Clinton High School Football team suffered its first loss in Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Region 2-7A action on Friday night.

Clinton could not keep pace with the hosting Tupelo Golden Wave, dropping the decision, 49-0, at Renasant Field on the campus of Tupelo High School.

Tupelo (9-0, 3-0 Region 2-7A) rushed for 361 yards and added 136 passing yards to run away with the blowout victory. The Tupelo defense stifled the Arrows, holding the visitors to only 125 total yards and six first downs.

The Golden Wave kept the Clinton offense sidelined as they delivered a heavy dosage of ground and pound. In the first half, Tupelo eclipsed the century mark as they rushed 20 times for 121 yards. The steady running attack gave Tupelo a time of possession of 14 minutes, 39 seconds. Jaeden Hill's 3-yard and 2-yard rushing touchdowns helped the home team get to a 21-0 halftime advantage.

Noah Gillion connected with Ashton Blanchard late in the first period to give the Golden Wave a 14-0 lead with 1:23 remaining in the opening quarter.

Hill added his third touchdown on the second half's opening possession, and Gillion enacted a running clock when he threw a touchdown pass to Brody Wilson for the 35-point advantage.

Tupelo added 14 more points to reach its scoring total in the fourth.
