The Clinton Arrows Soccer team scored on a penalty in the final minutes of Tuesday night's game at Starkville to defeat the Yellow Jackets by a score of 2-1. The win moves the Arrows to a record of 5-0 in Region 2-7A and a 15-1-2 record overall.
The Arrows got on the board first when Senior
Price Farrar scored in the 13th minute on an assist from Senior
Brice Nunnery to make the score 1-0. The game would remain 1-0 as the two teams headed into halftime.
In the second half, the Yellow Jackets were able to find an equalizer to make the score 1-1. The Arrows created chances throughout the second half until the 80th minute when Senior
Logan Cole converted a penalty after Junior
Justin Singleton was fouled in the box. Cole sent the penalty into the left side of the net to give the Arrows the lead just before the final whistle.
Head Coach Tyler Wade said of his team's performance, "Tough game tonight with the travel and weather conditions. We started well, but made a mistake and let them back in the game. The boys did well to keep our organization and continuing to create opportunities to equalize. Fortunate to get another district win as we prepare to finish the last few weeks of the season and get ready for the playoffs."
The Arrows return home on Thursday night as they play host to the Mavericks of Germantown High School at Arrow Field. Kickoff will be at approximately 7:15 PM.
