The Arrows head east for their third game of the 2023 season as they will take on Brandon at 7 PM on Friday, September 8. Both the Arrows and the Bulldogs head into Friday night's matchup at 0-2. The Arrows are coming off of losses to Warren Central (28-7) and Northwest Rankin (21-14), and Brandon lost to Picayune in Week 1 (28-21) and Madison Central in Week 2 (40-26). Both teams look to get their first win Friday night as they face each other in the annual week 3 rivalry matchup.
The Arrows' previous game against Northwest Rankin was a close one as the Arrows rallied in the 2nd half to cut into the Cougars' lead but were unable to overcome an early deficit and fell 21-14.Â
Jakobe Williams ran the ball 17 times for 114 yards, averaging over 6 yards per carry. Defensively, the Arrows turned in another strong 2nd half performance, holding the Cougars to only 7 points and only 2 first downs. Â
Home Away from Home
The home team is a surprising 2-8 in the 10 most recent installments of this metro area rivalry. The Bulldogs won back in 2014 at home, 21-7, and also won at home in 2021, 31-24. The 3 Arrow victories in this rivalry over the past decade have all come at Brandon with the Arrows winning 28-21 in 2016 on their way to capturing the MHSAA State Championship, 19-14 in 2018, and 30-7 in the season opener of the 2020 season.
Nail-Biters Beware
In the past decade of this rivalry, 8 games have been decided by 14 or fewer points. 5 of those matchups have been decided by a single score. The Arrows and the Bulldogs seem to always play close games, with the 2 most recent installments both being decided by 7 points and a late 4th Quarter touchdown score to decide the outcome.Â
