VICKSBURG -- The Clinton High School football team used late-game heroics to defeat Vicksburg, 14-13, in its preseason scrimmage Friday night at Memorial Stadium.

After a scoreless opening quarter, the Arrows grabbed a 6-0 advantage when Boskey Evans raced into the end zone from 12 yards out. However, the Gators rattled off 13 unanswered points, scoring on a 29-yard passing touchdown and a pick-six returned 88 yards during the second to take a seven-point lead with 1:25 left on the clock.

Clinton pulled within a point as time expired in the two-quarter varsity contest when John Jackson hauled in a 12-yard touchdown reception. With the game coming down to the conversion attempt, Jayden Jones connected with Evans out of the backfield for the two-point conversion, lifting the Arrows to the road triumph.

The Arrows amassed 172 yards of total offense on 40 snaps and recorded 11 first downs to Vicksburg's six.

Evans, a senior running back, led the offensive rushing with five carries for 39 yards, helping Clinton reach 60 total rushing yards.

Jones went seven-of-20 passing for 112 yards and a touchdown. Khayden Donald had two receptions for 60 yards, while Jackson added three catches for 45 yards.

Trevion Casnel led Clinton's defensive effort with three solo tackles and one assisted tackle. Montario Braden had three solo tackles, while Malik Jackson and AJ Fairley had two apiece.
