CLINTON -- The Clinton High School football team hits the road Friday night as the Arrows take on Warren Central in non-region game, opening the 2026 season at the Red Carpet Bowl.
Clinton and Warren Central will kick off at 7 p.m. at Viking Stadium in Vicksburg.
"We had a great offseason," Clinton Head Football Coach Hamer Morgan said. "The guys came in after last season really hungry and attacked the weight room each and every day.
"We got some things going as we entered spring ball and had a good three weeks of spring practice. That led us into the summer, and we had a good summer," Morgan added.
THE MATCHUP
The Arrows enter Friday's contest after an exciting scrimmage win over the Vicksburg Gators, leaving the decision to the final second.
Jayden Jones connected with
John Jackson in the corner of the end zone, bringing Clinton within a point of the Gators, followed by Jones' two-point-conversion pass to
Boskey Evans, who leaked out of the end zone, to secure a 14-13 win, sending the red and black spilling on to the field. Evans scored the scrimmage's opening touchdown during the second quarter.
Trevion Casnel,
Montario Braden,
Malik Jackson, and
AJ Fairley led Clinton's defensive effort.
"We had a good week last week at the jamboree," Morgan said. "We saw some good things, but we also saw a lot of things we need to clean up. The guys are really focused, locked in, and ready to go Friday night."
The Vikings, who are the defending MHSAA Class 6A state champions, squared off against Clinton's third-week opponent Brandon last Friday at Brandon High School.
"We have to take care of ourselves. We cannot beat ourselves or make unnecessary mistakes," Morgan said. "The main thing is to do the things we can control and let the chips fall where they may."
Friday's meeting is the 62nd meeting between Clinton and Warren Central. The Arrows have won two straight over the Vikings, including 45-13 win at Arrow Field to open the 2025 season. The Vikings lead the series with 32 wins to Clinton's 29.
