The Clinton Arrows Soccer team defeated the Tupelo Golden Wave on the road on Friday night by a score of 4-1. The win moves the Arrows to a record of 3-0 in Region 2-7A and an overall record of 13-0.
Tupelo struck first in the first half as they earned a penalty in the box and converted the attempt to make the score 1-0. Just before halftime, the Arrows found the all-important equalizer when Senior
Keaton Cole found the back of the net in the 38th minute on an assist from Senior
Logan Bryant. The teams went to the locker room tied at 1-1.
In the second half, the Arrows imposed their will, scoring a goal in the 43rd minute just out of halftime to take the lead. Senior
Logan Cole scored to give the Arrows the 2-1 lead. As the minutes counted down to the final whistle, the Arrows pulled away with 2 more goals in the final 5 minutes. Junior
Justin Singleton scored in the 75th minute on an assist from Senior
Brice Nunnery to make the score 3-1.
Logan Cole scored his second goal of the game in the 80th minute on another assist from Nunnery to send the score to its' eventual final of 4-1.
Arrows' Head Coach Tyler Wade said of Friday's game, "Once again we got behind early on a penalty and had to battle back. We kept possession really well and finally equalized before halftime. We were able to get the early lead in the 2nd half and kept the pressure on the rest of the way to finish the game comfortably. Happy to be 3-0 in district play and look forward to playing Starkville next week before the break."
The Arrows return home on Tuesday night as they host the Starkville Yellowjackets in another Region 2-7A matchup. Kickoff will follow the Lady Arrows' match, around 7:15 PM.
