The Clinton Arrows Soccer team kept their winning streak alive at home Tuesday night by defeating the Madison Central Jaguars by a score of 1-0.  The win moves the Arrows to 12-0 on the season.  The loss was the first of the season for the Jaguars.

The 1st half was a back and forth struggle that saw both teams with opportunities to score that were not converted.  The Arrows and Jaguars both had chances at goal through breakaways and corner kicks, but the connections were not completed and the score at halftime was 0-0.

The 2nd half was much of the same until the 78th minute.  As Junior Erick Martinez accelerated up the left side, the ball found his feet at the edge of the 18 yard box.  As he made a move on the Jaguar defender, Martinez was tripped inside the box and drew an obvious penalty call with only just over 10 minutes remaining in the match.  Senior Logan Cole was called on to convert the penalty, and he did just that.  Cole drilled the ball into the back of the net to give the Arrows a 1-0 lead in the waning minutes of the match.  

Senior Goalkeeper Caleb Pemberton recorded his 4th clean sheet of the 2023-2024 season along with the stellar play of the back line defenders, Seniors Brady Torrence, Cody Barnett, and Thomas Martin.

Head Coach Tyler Wade said of his team's performance, "We didn't play our most complete game of the season and definitely left a little to be desired in our attacking third. We created a lot of opportunities to score, but weren't very dangerous with our chances and couldn't find a way to get on the end of one. Credit to our guys for keeping their head in the game not being affected by the circumstances. It's good to gets win and be 2-0 in district play."

The Arrows return to action on Friday in another pivotal Region 2-7A matchup as they become road warriors and travel to Tupelo to take on the Golden Wave.  Kickoff will be at 7 PM.
