The Arrows dropped a 42-35 shooutout to the Mavericks of Germantown on Friday night.  The win caps the Mavericks' regular season at 5-5 and 2-2 in Region 2-7A.  The loss drops the Arrows to 1-8 and 0-3 in the region.  Clinton still has a shot at the playoffs next Thursday night at Madison Central as the two teams will play in a winner take all game.  The winner will make the playoffs and the loser will be eliminated.

The Mavericks started the high-scoring outburst quickly as they successfully converted a surprise onside kick to open the game.  They then scored on the second play of the game on a 48 yard pass from Jackson Hood to Ny Johnson to make the score 7-0.  The Arrows answered with a 37 yard pass from Senior QB Sam Semi to Senior WR Veshone Malone to tie the score at 7.  Germantown then answered on their next drive on a pass from Hood to Trae Stevenson to go up 14-7 at the end of the 1st quarter.

The 2nd quarter was mostly a stalemate, until following a Maverick punt inside the 1 yard line, the Arrows drove the ball 99 yards on only 6 plays to score on a Semi 8 yard run to tie the score at 14.  The Mavericks, however, answered quickly just before halftime on a 39 yard pass from Hood to Johnson to send the teams into the locker room with a score of 21-14.

In the 2nd half, the Arrows defense came up big early with a sack and fumble recovery at the 1 yard line, followed by a hardfought TD run by Junior RB Jakobe Williams to tie the score at 21.  Germantown answered with a 7 play 80 yard drive capped off by a 1 yard TD run by Johnson to make the score 28-21.  The Arrows scored on another beautiful pass over the middle from Semi to Malone to tie the score at 28 heading into the final frame.

In the 4th quarter, the Mavericks used up half the quarter on a 15 play 80 yard drive that saw another 1 yard TD run by Ny Johnson to give them the lead at 35-28.  The game then turned as the Arrows were driving and attempted to throw a screen pass that touched the outstretched fingertips of the defensive end and popped up in the air long enough for Darrell Gross to reel it in and return it for a TD to give Germantown a two score lead.  The Arrows scored with just over 3 minutes left in the game on a creative double pass from Sophomore WR Jaydann Hollins to Veshone Malone to make the score 42-35.  The Mavericks recovered the ensuing onside kick and converted a couple first downs to run out the clock and secure the victory.

The Arrows' offense outgained the Mavericks with 422 total yards.  251 of those yards were through the air combined with 171 on 26 carries on the ground.  Semi led the Arrows with 11 carries for 79 yards and a TD, while Jakobe Williams had 10 carries for 58 yards and a TD.  Semi was 15 of 18 for 218 yards and 2 TD.  Jaydann Hollins was 1 of 1 for 33 yards and a TD.

Mark your calendars, Arrow Nation.  The Arrows play on THURSDAY this week in the season finale with everything on the line.  Kickoff will be at Madison at 7 PM on Thursday, November 2.
