BROOKHAVEN -- The Clinton High School men's cross country team pieced together a winning performance in its season opener Thursday, August 13, at the Ole Brook Invitational.
Godwin Onyia led the Arrows with a second-place finish, while Clinton placed all five of its scoring runners inside the top seven to claim the team victory in the 5,000-meter race.
Clinton finished with a team average time of 17:54. Onyia paced the Arrows with a time of 17:00.5, followed by
Elijah Waldo-Speth in third place at 17:48.9 and
Noah Duncan in fourth at 18:04.8.
Will Kennedy and
Daniel Dolson completed Clinton's scoring five with back-to-back finishes. Kennedy placed sixth with a time of 18:13.7, while Dolson crossed immediately behind him in seventh at 18:13.8.
The Clinton Junior High School boys also opened their season with a great performance, placing second in the team standings.
Adrian Brown led CJHS with a third-place finish in the two-mile race, posting a time of 12:29.1.
Michael Onyia followed in fifth place with a time of 12:58.5, while
Jaden Dasary finished seventh at 13:17.7.
John Chittom placed 12th with a time of 13:40.7, and
Lincoln Strickler rounded out CJHS's scoring five in 13th place at 14:05.9.

CJHS returns to competition this Thursday at the Clinton Junior Arrows Meet on the campus of Clinton High School. Racing begins at 5:30 p.m.
The CHS Arrows return to action on Saturday, August 29, at the Southern Heatwave Classic in Brandon. The meet is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m.
