New season, same standard: Arrow Track & Field rolls at Season Opener

CLINTON -- The Clinton High School Track and Field teams opened the 2026 outdoor season in impressive fashion Friday at the Clinton Season Opener, turning in multiple first-place finishes and dominant performances to begin the campaign on a high note.

The Lady Arrows enter the season as 12-time defending state champions, and the Arrows are coming off a Class 7A runner-up finish last season.

The Arrows showcased their speed in the season's first meet. In the boys' 100 meters, Jimmy Bowie (10.88) and Jaxcen Williams (10.93) placed third an fourth overall, while Caden Stubbs and Tyler Dabney added solid early-season performances.

On the girls' side, Camille Lewis ran 12.31 to take second in the 100 meter, while Jade Evans and Karsen Goodwin also earned top-five finishes.

Senior Carter Pakrs delivered a top performance, winning the boys' 110m hurdles (14.07) and later claimed the 300m hurdles in 39.87. Teammate Trevion Casnel added a runner-up finish in the 110m hurdles and third in the 300m hurdles.

For the Lady Arrows, Andraeia Cavett captured first in the 100m hurdles (14.67) and later won the 300m hurdles (45.75), establishing herself with an early standard.

In the middle distances, Clinton flashed strength, especially in the boys' 800m. The Arrows swept the event's top four spots as Myron Pate (2:04.99), Jaylen Brister (2:06.17), Tobias Atkinson (2:06.18), and Godwin Onyia (2:07.57) went first, second, third, and fourth, respectively.

Onyia later added a second-place finish in the 1600m with a time of four minutes, 46 seconds.

For the Lady Arrows, Shekinah Jenkins won the 800m (2:35.81) followed closely by Makenzie Speed and Ellen Clair Fortenberry. In the 1600m, Riley Moore (5:38.97) and Caroline Henry (5:42.02) finished first and second. Henry later won the 3200m with a time of 12:00.47.

Off the track, Clinton's field events produced big marks, as well.

In the throws, Nathan Perkins won the boys' discus with a throw of 163-06, while Jonathan Rockett led the way in the shot put with a mark of 51-01.75.

Jonah Banks cleared 6-04 to take second in the high jump and added a second-place leap of 21-09 in the long jump. Anthony Blake won the boys' triple jump (45-06), while Jamaya Ivory captured the girls' triple jumpe (35-08).

Pole vault was another bright spot as Daniel Dickinson (12-06) and Camron Lanyuy (11-06) finished first and second for the boys. On the girls' side, Tenley Prestwood cleared 10-06 to win the event.

Clinton's relay units provided some the loudest statements on Friday.

The Girls 4x100m relay team of Goodwin, Lewis, Cavett, and Khamrin Harper won in 48.31. The Lady Arrows also took first in the 4x200m, 4x400m, and 4x800m en route to a relay sweep.

The boys' 4x800 relay team of Pate, Brister, Oniya, and Atkinson captured first in 8:33.47, while the boys' 4x100 finished second in 42.31.

UP NEXT

The Lady Arrows and the Arrows return to action Friday, February 27, competing in the Brookhaven Speed Trials at Brookhaven High School.

Meanwhile, Clinton's pole vaulters will split off and travel to Madison Central High School for the Rumble in the Jungle.
