PEARL -- The Clinton High School Baseball team could not ask for a much sharper start of the 2026 season.
Behind dominant pitching and timely offense, Clinton blanked Pearl, 5-0, Tuesday night on the road to open the year in strong fashion.
The Arrow pitching staff was locked in from the opening pitch.
Stone Crain got the start and worked three-2/3 innings, allowing just three hits while striking out four. He handed the ball off to
Brady Holmes, who slammed the door over the final three-1/3 innings, allowing only two hits and fanning six Pirates to secure the shutout. The Arrows did not issue a single walk in the winning effort.
After four scoreless innings, the Arrows broke through in the top of the fifth, plating three runs. Clinton, then, added two insurance runs in the seventh to put the game out of reach.
David Steelman, who went 4-for-4 at the plate with a double and an RBI, highlighted the eight-hit performance. Parker Barron added two hits, including a double, while
Ethan Dodson contributed an RBI single.
In addition to the firepower at the plate, Clinton pressure Pearl with its speed. The Arrows stole several bases, including two swipes from Braylon Lowery and two more from
Parker Burrow.
Chad Bates,
Wesley Warren, and Steelman each stole a base.
The aggressive approach, combined with Pearl's three defensive errors, helped Clinton capitalize on scoring opportunities late in the non-region contest.
