Parker Thames and
Caleb Waldo-Speth combined for a no-hitter, the Clinton High School Baseball team collected 10 hits and tallied an eight-run first inning to defeat the Raymond Rangers, 15-0, in three innings on Monday night at Arrow Baseball Field.
Thames, the starting pitching, earned the win for Clinton on the mound. The right-handed pitcher gave up no hits and no runs over two innings, striking out two and walking one. Waldo-Speth threw one inning of zero-run ball for the Arrows in relief. The hurler allowed no hits, striking out two and walking none.
Clinton opened the scoring with eight runs on four hits during the bottom of the first inning.
Josef Walker drew a walk, scoring one run,
Tyrese Haggard was struck by a pitch, scoring a run,
Parker Thames singled, driving in one run,
Rodney Harris drew a walk, scoring one run,
Chad Bates doubled, scoring two more runs, and Walker completed the scoring when he hit a sacrifice fly, bringing in the last run of the first.
Two more runs crossed the plate in the second to extend the lead to 10-0.
Stone Crain blasted a solo shot over the left-field fence, and
Brody Zumbro hit a sacrifice fly, adding another run.
The Arrows added five runs on five more hits during the third, inducing the 15-run mercy rule. Walker doubled, scoring one run, Dodson doubled, scoring one run,
David Steelman grounded out, scoring one run, and
Aaric Beasley singled, scoring the game's final two runs.
In total, the Arrow offense tallied 10 hits, stole five bases, and four walks. Bates set the tone at the top of the lineup, leading the red and black with three hits in three at bats. Additionally, Bates swiped two of the five stolen bases. Walker, Dodson, Bates, and Beasley each drove in two runs. Crain collected two hits in two at bats.
