PEARL --
Ethan Dodson collected four hits in four at bats as the Clinton High School Baseball team defeated the Pearl Pirates, 14-0, in five innings on Tuesday night.
Dodson's stellar performance saw the shortstop triple and punch through three singles.
The Arrows (4-1) got on the board in the top of the first inning after Dodson singled to the left side of the infield, and
Stone Crain grounded into a double play, each scoring one run.
Clinton added seven runs on three hits in the third. Pearl's pitching staff induced a Crain fielder's choice, but two runs scored,
Tyrese Haggard drew a walk, scoring one run, a wild pitch score another,
Chad Bates singled, scoring one run, and
Josef Walker line out, scoring the last run of seven.
The Arrows added five runs on four hits in the fifth. Walker was hit by a pitch, adding a run, Dodson tripled, scoring two runs, Crain singled, scoring one run, and Haggard drew a walk, which added the final Arrow run of the game.
Brady Holmes started the game on the mound for the Arrows. Holmes allowed two hits and zero runs over two and one-third innings, striking out five and walking two. In relief,
Brody Zumbro surrendered zero hits and no runs over one and two-thirds innings, striking out four and walking none. Additionally, senior
Phillip Burchfield went one inning of no-run ball with no hits, two punchouts, and no walks.
Clinton amassed 13 hits in the game. Crain and Dodson were tough for the Pirates to handle in the three and four spots of the lineup as each drove in two runs.
David Steelman, Bates, and Walker each collected multiple hits. Not only did the offense cause havoc swinging the bat, the Arrows' patience induced six walks.
Aaric Beasley and Haggard both had two bases on balls.
